Know the risks of being a professional trading account holder
- You don’t get Negative Balance Protection
- You waive the right to receive a Financial Services Guide (FSG).
- You waive the right to receive a Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).
- You may lose the right to compensation and complaint handling arrangements. This remains at the discretion of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

Qualifying for our professional trading account
To trade using a professional trading account, you must qualify as either a ‘wholesale client’ or ‘sophisticated investor’, based on the specific criteria listed below.
Wholesale clients
To qualify as a wholesale client, you’ll need to:
- Demonstrate your knowledge by completing a short online test.
- Have assets of at least $2.5 million, or gross annual earnings of at least $250,000 for the last two years.
Sophisticated investors
To qualify as a sophisticated investor, you’ll need to:
- Demonstrate your knowledge by completing a short online test.
- Have placed a minimum of 50 leveraged derivative trades per quarter for at least four quarters in the preceding three years, with a notional value of $500,000 or more each quarter.
- You can demonstrate this experience from your OANDA account or another provider (or a combination of both).
We cannot guarantee you will meet the qualifying standards needed to be a wholesale client or sophisticated investor. If you do qualify, you will be upgraded to our professional trading account.
We won’t be able to assess you as a wholesale client or sophisticated investor if you:
- Trade derivatives in connection with a business, or
- Have not traded derivatives previously
